gray day (aka spring search continues)

I’m not giving up on wearing bright colors to encourage spring to come to Chicago, I swear. I know many of you think this is a decent strategy to change the weather with my clothing superpowers  (thanks for being so supportive, you guys). I have, however, been on the look-out for gray pants. So, when I found them at Gap, I decided to embrace the gray pants along with the gray weather. I love the stitched knee and back zipper detail on them…I fear these may become my new black pants, as I don’t want to ever take them off. Even though I’m in gray, there’s nothing gloomy about this look..especially since the whole outfit was $24. Thanks, Gap. Now if only Mother Nature would take a hint.

Fashion Huntress tips:
1) Gap is having a serious winter clear-out sale. Despite it being a “winter sale,” so many of the clothes on sale really can be transitioned throughout the year. I opted for a thin sweater versus the thicker sweaters that were also on sale, so that I could also wear the sweater in Spring. Almost all of the pants on sale were 100% cotton and could easily be worn in any season. Check it out: http://www.gap.com
2) Cropped sweaters. I’ve really struggled with cropped pieces this year. I love the way they look on other people, but I have a really long torso, so I feel like cropped pieces can look odd on me. Either way, I noticed that cropped was, well, cropping up everywhere. I added a long sleeve tee under this sweater to add some length and it ended up working out just fine. If you’ve also been struggling with the cropped look, consider adding length by adding a shirt under the cropped piece, especially if you work in a conservative field.
Anyone else have tips for cropped pieces at work? I’d love your tips!
Happy Sunday, everyone! Thank you so much for visiting and hope you have a great start to the week!

  1. LOVE the shoes. Great find! I, too, need to start wearing brighter colors to encourage spring!!

  2. Hehe, I did the same thing, added a longer shirt under a cropped sweater, and looked great !! Love your outfit!! At this rate, spring’s almost here 😁😁😁 You go, superwoman!! 😉😉😉

    Xoxo,

  3. Oh, Gap – what a treasure trove! Those shoes are amazing and the sweater, too. I think you’ve nailed it with the cropped look – this right-on-the-waistband length is very flattering while also ticking off the trend.

  4. How cute are those flats!?! I love them! And I can’t believe your whole outfit was $24! Our Gap (Canada) has some great deals in the clearance section but no way near the steep discounts you have. Crazy!
I’ve stayed away from the crop top trend…I love it on other people but I just don’t feel comfortable in them. But adding a shirt underneath is such a great idea. You’ve nailed this look!

  5. Love the pop of color with the shoes. I don’t think I’ll ever ‘retire’ my spring colors in the winter lol I just like bright things too much. Hope you have a great Monday 🙂 xx

  6. As always you are THE mark-down-high-quality guru!! Those pants are adorable and for $7?! Can I borrow your genius hunting skills for just one day?? 🙂 🙂 Try to stay warm and positive, love. . .spring will come!! xxx

      1. Woo hoo – sunshine is winking on your clever winter-to-spring-chic outfit!! Haha, and if I make it to Chicago – it’s you and me and the clearance rack, girl! xo

  7. I got that sweater in solid grey for a similar price, I was pretty excited! I have the same long torso issue and have just had to come to terms with the fact that layering is a necessary part of life 😦

    1. I almost got the gray! It came down to the two, I had gotten a gray sweater a few months ago, so decided to stick with the blue! And lol, yes, true, we need torsos- I normally don’t mind it at all, but I did find that a lot of tops were really cropped on me before the longer tee trend became popular!

  8. I love how you mixed the print on the shoes with the stripes. Seeing as how much I “hate” stripes afterall;) I am so jealous you found those shoes, as soon as I saw them on sale I immediately was on the hunt for my size with no success.

This entire outfit is so cute!

    xx Cara

  9. I’m totally smitten with your striped sweater…I think I have a slight obsession with anything striped! You can definitely score some amazing deals at Gap with all the sales on at the moment! Those flats were a total steal – LOVE the print!

  10. you saw how i wore my bolero as a cropped sweater a few weeks ago..not a huge cropped person myself..but I feel, you can actually pull it off, better with skirts than with jeans, where you are really showing the length of your torso and legs. Skirts tend to add a boundary line in my mind..you can try wearing a pencil skirt, a top, and then the cropped sweater on top of it..it will proportion out the outfit, I would think…

  11. Love the bright colors! And those shoes are adorable! I got a handful of bright workout clothes at that very Gap sale 🙂 Bright teal leggings always make yoga more fun 🙂

  12. I love cropped sweaters, even though I too have a long torso. Sometimes rules are meant to be broken! 😉
