a week in review

Despite now having blogged for years, this is the first time I managed to 1) photograph my outfit Monday-Saturday and 2) dress up every day! Usually by Friday, I’m mentally about two steps away from yoga pants and a sweatshirt at work, but it was fun to challenge myself to rotate through some oldies but goodies in my closet. I haven’t posted on each of these outfits individually yet, but here’s a preview of what’s to come…! Have a fabulous weekend, readers!

Anyone else challenging themselves to a closet rotation challenge? I vote, go for it!

just faux fun

I couldn’t help it, readers! I LOVE a fashion pun! But, for real, the real deal, these faux fur shoes are just too fun. And everyone has amazing feedback to fur on shoes, from “those remind me of a muppet…in a good way!” to “those just look like a party…so festive!” To me, they felt like Cinderella’s glass slipper; they just brightened my day right up. It’s, faux real, the little things in life. (see what I just did there?)

Fashion Huntress tips:

1) Perhaps somewhat surprising, I have not yet checked out the post-holiday sales. But, I have heard good things from very reliable sources (i.e. my friends), that now is the time to get things on sale that you had been eyeing throughout winter. And, certainly that makes sense for retailers. They generally will mark down many items after everyone has done their holiday shopping. So if you were waiting for a good price for an item, now might be the time to go check it out!

2) Nordstrom Rack’s website has really impressed me lately. While I tend to shop in person, their website really is great. In fact, I paid more in the store for my sweater and necklace than was listed online. I am sure Nordstrom would likely honor online prices if you can show the reduced online price. Had I been more savvy that day, I would have done so right then and there! So, I would say perhaps this is a store you want to consider opting for online!

Anyone else enjoying the faux fur trend lately? I hope everyone had a great holiday and is ready for the beginning of a wonderful New Year!

glitz and glam

With Thanksgiving approaching, I am feeling very festive- and what is more festive than glitter, gold, and faux fur?! Short and sweet today- I’m going all glitz and glam in preparation for a lovely holiday season.

Top: Babeau via Nordstrom Rack ($26 marked down from $80)

Pants: Banana Republic ($17 marked down from approx $90)

Vest: Nordstrom Rack ($40)

Boots: Ann Taylor Loft ($12 marked down from $128)

Earrings: Rebecca Minkoff via Nordstrom Rack ($10 marked down from $48)

Ring: Tory Burch via Nordstrom Rack ($10 marked down from $100)

Necklace: thrift ($5, retails for $40)

Fashion Huntress tips:

1) Depending on your shape, you’ll want to watch how you style a heavier piece (like a faux fur vest). I’m pear shaped, so I like to balance the weight of the vest with a clunkier/heavier shoe- hence the heavy ankle boots. When I’m not sure how to proportion an outfit, I just use my full length mirror, which helps me see the full outfit and help balance it. Another option with this look would be to belt the vest and add a little shape and balance that way. But, it all depends on your shape- so just think balance and proportion!

2) If you’re looking for “holiday” clothes, I found that Nordstrom Rack has the best selection of festive holiday attire around. I looked at a lot of stores before I found some fun (but still slightly reserved) metallic and festive attire. So, if you’re looking for your holiday party clothes (or you just love wearing metallics like me!), then check out your local Nordstrom Rack, or  nordstromrack.com.

Anyone else pulling out their metallics? Loving holiday apparel? Thanks so much for stopping by, readers! I appreciate it so much!

hounding after spring in houndstooth

In a rare bout of warmth, I was able to dash outside to take a few photos. I think we are all hoping that Spring, and the promise of the season of new beginnings, is around the corner. I’d have more to say, but I’d likely tell you all again the story of these shoes, and I will spare you all that story…instead, I’ll be dreaming of Spring…

“O, wind, if winter comes, can spring be far behind?” -Percy Bysshe Shelley

Denim shirt: Forever 21 ($20)

Sweatshirt blazer: Gap ($40 marked down from $70)

Pants: Gap ($8 marked down from $55)

Shoes: Cole Haan Lunar Grand ($70 marked down from $400)

Necklace: Nordstrom Rack (approx $5 marked down from approx $20)

Fashion Huntress tips:

1) For the first time, I wore mini socks with my heels instead of just bare feet. I have to say, I’m a big fan. I found a set of the socks at Nordstrom Rack on clearance; they were $4 for five pairs. If you’re going to wear the ballet flat/mini socks, I definitely recommend getting the kind with rubber on the back of them to help keep them on your feet. I also recommend getting a pair with a short toe, so that you can wear them with heels or shoes that show a lot of skin. I like the brand Hue, and they are called “no-show” socks. The mini socks are a great to wear heels in the winter without have freezing feet. Umm…why am I just discovering this now??

2) Patterned pants can be really tricky when trying to think of new ways to wear them (at least for me)! The last time I wore these pants, I went bold on top by adding more red to the look with a red cardigan and red scarf:

This time, I went simple by keeping the denim top, but going neutral on top.  I added the red shoes this time and really did get a different look with these changes. I actually think this look is a bit more “spring” but with more of a “winter” pant.

Hopefully these two looks will help you re-think your own patterned pants! …or perhaps make you think about getting a pair of patterned pants! Anyone else have printed pants change-up tips?

Thanks for stopping by, readers!! I hope everyone is having a great weekend.
