summer solstice

Happy official summer, readers! If you’ve seen my previous posts, you can tell I’m a huge fan of the Victoria Beckham line for Target. At my local Target, there were a few pieces remaining that went on super sale. So, of course, I did what usually happens when I’m at Target: I bought my groceries…and a dress. Seriously, I should avoid that place at all costs and yet… 🙂

Dress: Victoria Beckham for Target ($10 marked down from approx $40)

It’s #monthlymani time! This month’s theme was ‘Here Comes the Sun’ – perfect for summer, of course! My #monthlymani girl Kristi totally shone brightly with her take on the theme!  We even used the same yellow! #twinsies. Be sure to head over to Kristi to check out her mani as well!

free fallin’

Phew! It’s been a bit since my last post, but I needed a break to regroup and focus on one task over another! Most recent evidence of this is when I was trying to do a million things at once, and literally fell while crossing the street. …oh. my. Not only did I lose a little dignity, but I also managed to bruise and scrape a knee, wrist, and shoulder! As my dear friend pointed out (while helping to lift me up), ‘the universe is saying to SLOW DOWN!’ True. Story.  So, I’m slowing down a bit.

In the meantime, I’m also experimenting with new photo formats! Feel free to offer any feedback below!

I’m also wanting to try out the Zaful website, so I would love to hear if you’ve ordered from Zaful in the past!  I’ve had my eye on the trendier picks for the season, like the backless lace dresses  and the halter dresses . There’s also some off the shoulder picks, and some fab embroidered picks! Let me know your Zaful thoughts!

stop and smell the roses

I’m feeling much better this week, readers; thanks for the well wishes! I have so many things on my mind for the new year- in a good way! With the encouragement and support of my family, I’ve worked on making changes to my schedule to enable me to seek a little more balance. I think it’s so easy to get wrapped up in work, especially when you love what you do. Technology has made our work accessible basically at all times. But, there needs to be time set aside to stop and smell the roses, right? Well, in my case, to stop and photograph my shoes. Cheers to balance, readers!

Sweater suit: St John via thrift ($1, retails for around $500)

Coat: thrift ($9)

Necklace: J Crew ($12 marked down from approx $36)

Shoes: Lula Townsend at DSW ($12 marked down from $79) (I just had them re-heeled and they are good as new!)

Tights: H&M ($5)

Bag: Reed for Kohl’s ($32 marked down from approx $120)

What else is up this week, you ask? A new mani and some thrifted finds!

It’s that time again! Our theme this month for the #monthlymani (with my girl Kristi of Delightfully Kristi) is Frost Bite! I used a baby blue blue base color and then dabbed tissue paper in polish to add gold and glitter on top. Be sure to head over to Kristi to check out her truly awesome “Frost Bite” themed mani- it’s fab!

You can also see the buttons (photos above) that were on that jacket initially that I decided to remove to make the outside of the jacket look a little more sleek. It took just a couple of minutes and I saved the buttons for another project. Easy peasy. Buttons are a super easy way to change up a look- give it a try!

mooning over moms

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there! I’ve been fortunate enough to have so many mother figures in my family life. In terms of my fashion genes: my own mom taught me just about everything I know about fashion and bargain hunting; my sister taught me how to style the latest trends when I was a wee Huntress in the 80s; my maternal grandmother passed along her love of all things sewn, and my paternal grandmother passed along her love of cooking and flowers/gardening. While I wouldn’t say I”m a master of just about anything creative, I consider myself truly blessed for having so many creative mother figures in my life who inspired me and continue to inspire me each and every day. A very special shout-out to my mom (who never once balked at my talk of starting a fashion blog and continues to edit it) who is there for me through thick and thin, and my sister, who is a wonderful mom to my beloved niece and nephew. This is my mooning over moms look; as the mom says in Mean Girls, “you girls keep me young, I love you!”

Button down top: Banana Republic (approx $20 marked down from approx $80)

Peplum top: Nordstrom Rack ($9 marked down from $36)

Pants: Banana Republic ($20 marked down from $110)

Shoes: Lula Townsend at DSW ($12 marked down from $79)

Fashion Huntress tips:

1) Ever since I layered under a peplum top once, I’ve wanted to do it every day! This time, I didn’t even tuck the shirt under the peplum in, I just left it untucked. It was so liberating! Adding layers under peplum makes it very easy to wear a sleeveless top at work without worrying about adding a cardigan on top. I also liked the purple on purple, but the two different patterns. Always remember that it’s really very easy to mix and match patterns, especially if you stick within the same color palette (for example, here, I just layered purple patterns).

2) I must wear these shoes at least once a week.  Despite being black and white animal print, they are surprisingly versatile.  If you’re going for a pop of pattern, animal print is generally fairly easy to style, especially in shoes. You all know how I feel about DSW, readers. Just go straight to the clearance section, and bring your coupons (register via their website). Getting a pair of shoes for under $20 in the clearance section is totally doable! Don’t forget to refer to the color coded system that is de-coded on a chart on top of the rack- and remember that yellow means 80% off the sticker price, but is not on the chart!

Thank you so much for stopping by readers! I hope you had a wonderful weekend!!
