everything embroidered

img_8190

It’s hard to nail down my favorite fashion trends lately because there’s so many fun and creative options! In this look, I’m embracing the embroidery trend. I love the texture and custom feel embroidery adds to items like shoes, coats, and dresses. As a side note, I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how I style my top knots and hair braids (as seen in these photos). I have my top knot tutorial here, but stay tuned for a hair braid tutorial next. Honestly, it’s as easy as my top knot. I’m all about low maintenance (though my husband might disagree 🙂 HA!). Have a good rest of your week, readers!

It’s that time again! #monthlymani time! We went with a pirate theme this month to change it up a bit :)! I mixed Sparkle Aplenty from Revlon with Indi-glow from Sally Hansen to have a festive pirate theme. Be sure to head over to Kristi to check out her pirate themed #monthlymani! Aarrgh! (I couldn’t resist)

top knot tutorial!

Hi, readers! I’ve gotten a number of questions about how I do my top knot hairdo (aka 99% dry shampoo when I’m too tired to actually style my hair). So, without further ado, I really did my best to capture the photos of the step by step tutorial!

Start with a high ponytail but on the last loop through your ponytail holder, you make a loop with your hair. Then, take the loop and pin it forward towards the crown of your head on both sides. Seriously, that’s it. See the final product below!

You can see a couple of photos below of how it looks (depending on the day 🙂 ).

stop and smell the roses

Sometimes I forget the wonderful splendors around me because I’m busy rushing from one place to another, taking care of errands, going to work, going to the grocery store, blah blah blah. But, I’ve been working on being more mindful of taking a breath. This week, my husband and I took another trip to the local gardens and, sigh, it’s just such a beautiful place. It really makes me happy to stop and smell the roses. What about you, readers? What things of beauty are you seeing in the world around you? Leave a comment below!

nifty thrifty

Y’all, this Plenty by Tracy Reese dress was a dollar. $1.The blazer? $2. They retail $250 together, but cost me $3. Yep. Thrifting is one of my most favorite hobbies, and while I do also shop at big box retailers, I find thrifting to be the most rewarding. Never tried? Want to do more of it? Check out my list below!

Reasons why I thrift:

1) It’s good for the environment! Clothes in a landfills is a real problem across the world.

2) It gives back! A lot of thrift stores benefit local communities, give jobs to people in the community, and often recycle clothes they don’t sell.

3) It’s affordable! $1 dress above. Enough said.

4) Hunting for deals is a joy in (my) life! Finding a gem while thrifting is just a happy thing.

Thrifting doesn’t make your heart sing? No problem! Check out this handy dandy chart to see what you can do with your old clothes.

Y’all, fun fact part 1 was so fun, I just HAD to do another fun fact post! So, without further ado! Additional fun facts and leave yours below- that’s the best part!

Hablo español! A lot of people don’t realize that I am bilingual 🙂 I spent a year living in Spain, and I also majored in Spanish literature during my undergrad years. Spanish comes in handy all the time; I wish I spoke even more languages! Maybe one day #lifegoals.

I used to get made fun of for my glasses and my hair! I just was chatting with my sister the other day about the challenges of middle school and high school; we both had stories. I’ve had glasses since 2nd grade, and I used to get made fun of for them, as well as for wearing my hair in a ponytail. Isn’t that ridiculous?! It took me a long time to own my glasses since I can’t wear contacts, but now I really do own them. They are part of my identity. And, I still love ponytails. Man, kids those (these) days, am I right, so petty!

Ruffle bodysuit (hello, 90s! they are back!): Rosegal ($19)

Jeans: Articles of Society via Nordstrom Rack ($36 marked down from approx $68)

Shoes: Christian Siriano for Payless ($15 marked down from $35)

This gorgeous backdrop is from our last trip to New Orleans a couple of months ago; New Orleans is full of wonderfully kind people, fabulous food, a vivid culture, and so much more. I feel grateful that my travels have led me there twice, and I can’t wait to go back. Also, shout-out to the hubs for sparing me the trouble of my tripod and remote his photos are always so much more fabulous than my own! Happy weekend, readers!
