calm & centered (leave your tip!)

img_8722

Readers, I’ve been taking blogging a bit easy lately, since I’ve been extra focused on work and finding a sense of balance in my day to day ebb and flow. Things have a way of getting out of balance quickly and I find it’s a constant effort to feel like I’ve got everything calm and centered. Some of the ways I try to stay grounded are below. Please share your grounded, centered, and calming tips in the comments section below! I would love new ideas!

  1. Connecting with friends and family; talk about a taking a village, am I right? Even just a quick text to share in a moment feels like a wonderfully balanced act.
  2. Alone time; most people are shocked to know I’m a massive introvert. I really only recharge being completely by myself and I’ve implemented “task free days” where I just CHILL and do whatever I want. So liberating!! Those days, I’m often thrifting, at the library, or catching up on a few of my favorite shows.
  3. Creating! I LOVE to craft just about anything. These days, I’ve been working on felted wool animals. Yep. It’s so relaxing and calming!
  4. Yoga, mindfulness, and running. Enough said!

What about you, readers? Share your “ommm” strategies below!

everything embroidered

img_8190

It’s hard to nail down my favorite fashion trends lately because there’s so many fun and creative options! In this look, I’m embracing the embroidery trend. I love the texture and custom feel embroidery adds to items like shoes, coats, and dresses. As a side note, I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how I style my top knots and hair braids (as seen in these photos). I have my top knot tutorial here, but stay tuned for a hair braid tutorial next. Honestly, it’s as easy as my top knot. I’m all about low maintenance (though my husband might disagree 🙂 HA!). Have a good rest of your week, readers!

nifty thrifty

img_7729

Y’all, this Plenty by Tracy Reese dress was a dollar. $1.The blazer? $2. They retail $250 together, but cost me $3. Yep. Thrifting is one of my most favorite hobbies, and while I do also shop at big box retailers, I find thrifting to be the most rewarding. Never tried? Want to do more of it? Check out my list below!

Reasons why I thrift:

1) It’s good for the environment! Clothes in a landfills is a real problem across the world.

2) It gives back! A lot of thrift stores benefit local communities, give jobs to people in the community, and often recycle clothes they don’t sell.

3) It’s affordable! $1 dress above. Enough said.

4) Hunting for deals is a joy in (my) life! Finding a gem while thrifting is just a happy thing.

Thrifting doesn’t make your heart sing? No problem! Check out this handy dandy chart to see what you can do with your old clothes.

summer solstice

Happy official summer, readers! If you’ve seen my previous posts, you can tell I’m a huge fan of the Victoria Beckham line for Target. At my local Target, there were a few pieces remaining that went on super sale. So, of course, I did what usually happens when I’m at Target: I bought my groceries…and a dress. Seriously, I should avoid that place at all costs and yet… 🙂

poplin on the prairie

img_6114

A true Midwesterner at heart, I love being in prairie restoration sites. I was able to take some of my photos in such a site (staying on the path and not disturbing anything!) and felt totally at home. Of the 240 million acres that once existed in the Midwest, less than 1% remains today. Thanks to what I can only assume are very dedicated efforts by many people, you can still find pieces of prairie around the Midwest if you look closely. Today I’m feeling peaceful in my poplin top on the prairie.

a week in review

Despite now having blogged for years, this is the first time I managed to 1) photograph my outfit Monday-Saturday and 2) dress up every day! Usually by Friday, I’m mentally about two steps away from yoga pants and a sweatshirt at work, but it was fun to challenge myself to rotate through some oldies but goodies in my closet. I haven’t posted on each of these outfits individually yet, but here’s a preview of what’s to come…! Have a fabulous weekend, readers!

Anyone else challenging themselves to a closet rotation challenge? I vote, go for it!

happy heart day!

Happy heart day, readers! I’m thrilled to run with a theme- are you surprised? So, I pulled out my heart button down and new red Milly coat I got online at ThredUp. As I mentioned in my last couple of posts, this was the item that I really love that I got at Thred up. I am exceptionally thrilled with the quality of the coat; it was exactly as listed. Happy heart, indeed. I hope everyone has a wonderful day and is able to spend time time with friends, family, or on their own- just enjoying the day!
