snowy spots and shadows

I swear, readers, it was significantly warmer when I took these photos outdoors than last time (see last post re: taking photos outside in 0 degrees). And I was wearing a coat part of the time! Woo hoo! Well, I’m in my first winter statement coat, and I’m feeling good about it. Snowy, spotted, shadows, and sun. Perfect combination. Happy weekend, readers!

Fashion Huntress tips:

1) I’ve really wanted a statement coat for the past couple of years, but I rarely wanted to get one on sale! It doesn’t really seem like a piece that could be around forever (may go out of style), so I didn’t want to spend too much. This is a good time of year to look for a “trendy” item, if you’re looking for one, since the prices tend to be bottoming out between now and the end of February. As far as statement coats go, Asos has some great ones (generally quite affordable!), as did Ann Taylor.

2) I’m a big fan of having full suits (and sometimes wearing them), but also wearing them as separates. As you can see from the picture below, this is the full suit. And in this post, I paired the suit coat (blazer) with a dress. I think suits are pretty easy to thrift, as well as finding them at places like TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, and Nordstrom Rack. Plus, you never know when you may need one! So I think it’s always good to be prepared 🙂

Anyone else have tips for statement coats? Buying or wearing, styling? Thanks so much for stopping by, readers! I appreciate it so very much!

  1. Love this outfit! We finally have snow here. I really like the idea of a statement coat but it’s just not cold for long enough here in NC to make it worth my while. I have 1 super heavy winter parka thing that I got on ThreadUp and it’s not super fashionable but it does keep me super warm the 3-4 times a year that it gets super cold.

  2. Well you are mos def a bargain queen, cant believe you got that cute dress marked down to 20 bucks! Loving your feline coat hon, perfect for winter and makes a hell of a statement! Ps glad to see you have learnt from your ways and put a coat on for this post, ha!xo

  3. I love that leopard jacket! I have one myself, and I agree, its a wonderful statement piece. I always feel like it’s a bit too wild for everyday use, but who cares! You look fab!

  4. ah, again the mix of textures here is superb! super love the coat, and how in each layer of your get up there’s something else to look at (the ruffle on the blazer, the glitter on the tights, etc.). 🙂
