glitz and glam

With Thanksgiving approaching, I am feeling very festive- and what is more festive than glitter, gold, and faux fur?! Short and sweet today- I’m going all glitz and glam in preparation for a lovely holiday season.

Earrings: Rebecca Minkoff via Nordstrom Rack ($10 marked down from $48)

Ring: Tory Burch via Nordstrom Rack ($10 marked down from $100)

Fashion Huntress tips:

1) Depending on your shape, you’ll want to watch how you style a heavier piece (like a faux fur vest). I’m pear shaped, so I like to balance the weight of the vest with a clunkier/heavier shoe- hence the heavy ankle boots. When I’m not sure how to proportion an outfit, I just use my full length mirror, which helps me see the full outfit and help balance it. Another option with this look would be to belt the vest and add a little shape and balance that way. But, it all depends on your shape- so just think balance and proportion!

2) If you’re looking for “holiday” clothes, I found that Nordstrom Rack has the best selection of festive holiday attire around. I looked at a lot of stores before I found some fun (but still slightly reserved) metallic and festive attire. So, if you’re looking for your holiday party clothes (or you just love wearing metallics like me!), then check out your local Nordstrom Rack, or

surprising first snow (+giveaway winner!)

Call it denial (because it definitely is), but when I heard “lots of snow was coming,” I scoffed. Psssht, it can’t be that much this early in the season. Or can it? Well, as you can see from the photos, lots of snow was coming. And indeed it did. I’m using this as an excuse to start my Christmas music and lighting my pine scented candles early…and a reason to pull out a snowflake sweater. Surprising snow, indeed!

back to basics (pink and glitter)

Phew! How is it already almost Thanksgiving and Christmas?! Time is flyingI I feel like a lot of my time has been spent undergoing a steep learning curve in opening my business. I figure I’ll probably be a business genius one day at this rate- ha! Just kidding. I’ll solely remain a shoe expert. But, I’m proud that I’ve powered through, despite some periods of doubt and anxiety! My family and friends have been the most amazing supporters and cheerleaders around. Just in time for the holiday season, I’m reminded of how thankful I am to have a rockin’ support network. I decided to get back to my Fashion Huntress basics today with my outfit: pink and sparkles always help me to feel cozy and comfortable. I’m back to basics, and reflecting on thankfulness this holiday season…

Top: thrifted ($4)

Blazer: White House Black Market via thrift ($5)

Pants: Banana Republic ($17 marked down from approx $90)

Shoes: Sam Edelman via TJ Maxx ($32 marked down from $100)

Fashion Huntress tips:

1) It’s been a while since I have pulled out my dress pants, but I find that dress pants do go a long way in polishing off a look. For me, the key is finding a pair that is actually comfortable for long days. I’ve always had the best luck at Banana Republic for dress pants. They aren’t the cheapest pants, but you can always get them on sale, and frankly they last forever. I invested in charcoal gray dress pants back when I was a student…and they still look brand new almost ten years later. If you have a hard time finding a pair of pants that fit well (as we all do, right??), then this is a good article:

2) I recently learned that in many discount stores (Nordstrom Rack, DSW, etc), you can actually ask a sales associate for a different sized item if you can’t find it in the store..and they will ship it to you if they have it somewhere in the US. WHAT?! Yes. I know. So actually it does pay to look through various sizes if you’re searching for something in particular. Can’t find your size? Ask a sales associate!

It’s also monthly manicure day! This month was “fall treats” and I couldn’t resist sugary sweet pink nails and glitter (I know, there’s a theme here..and probably an addiction!)

golden haze days (+giveaway entry 4 days left!)

The days are really flying by lately…I can’t believe we are a month away from Christmas already! Still, Autumn is in the air and the leaves are crisp below my (high heeled) feet. I’m holding on to the golden haze days- and trekking out in the woods in my heels and jumpsuit to enjoy them.

Jumpsuit: Ann Taylor Loft ($5 marked down from approx $98)

Necklace: thrift ($5, retails for $40)

Shoes: Banana Republic ($75 marked down from $130)

Fashion Huntress tips:

1) Personally, I find that if you’re going to wear a jumpsuit, you want to consider pairing it with a shoe with a heel or a wedge. I know that I would legit look like I was wearing some sort of costume if I did not have my jumpsuit styled with my pumps and accessories- so I’m guessing the same goes for most people. However, I am always open to hearing more about how to style jumpsuits! My Pinterest board “Oh la la” has a lot of jumpsuit inspiration, you can find it here.

2) Oh, Ann Taylor Loft, you are tricky! Sometimes there is a very clear “FINAL SALE” rack- for items that are under $10. However, sometimes I find that the final sale items are mixed in with the other sale items. The trick is to ask a sales rep when you arrive in the store if there are “final sale” items in the sale section or elsewhere. Obviously if the final sale rack is around the store, it’s much easier to go through one rack than to dig through all of the sale racks to find the final sale items, but at least you will know where to look!

golden sunshine glory (+giveaway continues!)

Ahhhh we are having such glorious fall weather here in Chicago…it’s pure bliss! Now that Halloween has passed, my mind is moving towards Thanksgiving and, of course, Christmas. While always a busy season, it’s a season full of blessings. I’m looking forward to all of the seasonal activities, family time, friend time, and the last of the outdoor walks before winter hits. …and of course, celebrating fall fashion the rest of the month.

Blouse: L.K. Bennett via thrift ($1, retails for $300)

Jacket: thrift ($5)

Pants: Greylin via If Chic (approx $98)

Shoes: Nine West Outlet in New Orleans, LA ($25 marked down from approx $100)

Necklace: thrift ($5, retails for $40)

Fashion Huntress tips:

1) This is my first pair of super wide leg pants. At first I felt a little daunted by them! How does one style such a wide leg and flowy pant? I decided by pairing the wide leg pants with a streamlined blouse and jacket, and a pair of heels. While I do think you could wear flats with a super wide leg pant, it might look as though you aren’t wearing shoes! So, I recommend going with a kitten or high heel. Also remember to look for a pant that is lined, given that the material is on the thin/gauzy side.

2) Nothing says classy to me like a tweed blazer or jacket. Fortunately, they are really easy to come by just about anywhere these days. While I personally would love a Chanel version…that’s “a little” out of my price range (ha!). However, there are plenty of alternatives at thrift stores, Forever 21, H&M, Marshall’s, and TJ Maxx. Blazers don’t need to be super high quality unless you plan on wearing them every singe day. You can go for a mid range tweed blazer, and find that it elevates any outfit!
