marsala and the wooly mammoth

I think the title of this post sounds like a children’s fairy tale, except the story of this vest isn’t long enough to be a story, let alone a fairy tale. Nonetheless, here’s my tale: once upon a time (last week), I went to the magical Anthropologie sale (40% off sale items). I chanced upon this giant loopy knitted vest, and knew it 1) had to be mine 2) would henceforth be known as the “wooly mammoth.” And readers, that is the whole story. So, today, I’m in the color of the year, marsala, and the wooly mammoth.

Fashion Huntress tips:
1) Yes, you read that right. I found these pants at Costco, readers! What!? I know. To be perfectly honest, I have never found clothes at Costco. As the Fashion Huntress, yes, I always go through their women’s clothes when I’m grocery shopping, but haven’t found anything worth stopping for. However, I found these pants and was floored. They seriously fit like a glove and were $14. You can’t try things on there, so I estimated my size; you can always return items if they end up not fitting, but I would say if it’s spandex (as these pants partially are), they are pretty forgiving in terms of sizing. So, my tip is to check out your local Costco; apparently you never know what you will find.
2) Furry vests and oversized tops are very big (ha, ha) this season. I tend to shy away from oversized because I feel as though the pieces overwhelm me. However, I found that when I streamlined the rest of my outfit (skinny jeans and heels), the outfit was proportioned just fine. Additionally, I always like to look online or in-stores as to how a particular item is being styled. I found a picture of this vest online and saw that Anthro had styled it with streamlined pieces, and thus, had a better idea of how to style it with what I already had in my closet. Oversized is definitely doable!
Also, happy #monthly mani link up! This month’s theme is Pantone Spring 2015!

  1. Love the hat! We use to refer to this year’s ‘new’ colour marsala as oxblood. Back when Étienne Aigner was en~vogue. Aging myself now LOL 😀 . I still hunt for her vintage bags.~cheers Mona

  2. aah, i SO love this look!! that wooly mammoth is so cute! i mean, so cool! 😀 well, both. and you styled it perfectly! …and WHAT? it’s January and you can already go outside in just plain heels (no stockings, booths, etc.)?? must be quite warm there! lucky you!

  3. Love the story, love the outfit, and I love your nails!! The colors are beautiful and I love your use of marsala with the blue and neutral accents! Awesome! 🙂

  4. OMG LOVING the loopy vest (seriously giggling that you’ve named it the wooly mammoth)! And apparently Marsala is the colour for 2015. I just learned this the other day.

Also new to me, Costco has clothes?! I’ve never actually set foot in a costco, but still – I honestly thought it was just bulk groceries and apparently amazing pizza. Learn something new every day! 😀

  5. The wooly mammoth! This title made me chuckle!!lol! As soon as I saw your vest the first thing that came to mind was ‘ oh that looks so soft’. I want it! Please tell me it’s as soft as it looks?! Anthropologie just opened up over here, so you know I’ll be heading down to check it out with you trusty tip in my mind 🙂
