sheer (with a space heater)

IMG_3269
Is it a high point or a low point that the riveting blog topic of the day is my office space heater? (I’m going to go with high point.) When it’s -20 in Chicago, survival boils down to smart layering and office space heaters. This is especially essential since I seem to forget trouser socks nearly every day and wind up with bare feet in my heels… luckily, I was able to go sheer with the help of my trusty space heater (insert warm fuzzy thoughts of flannel pajamas here) (sigh, because you cannot wear pajamas to work). As much as I miss the sun and warmth, seriously, readers, I have a total weakness for scarves, sweaters, tights, and layers. This is my sheer (still layered) look, all with the help of a little extra heat.

Fashion Huntress tips:
1) I do love a sheer top year round, but I do not love freezing all day! As a result, I always have an extra sweater hanging out in or around my desk. You don’t need to pack up your “summer” tops, but you do need to layer up if your winter is anything like ours. In addition to a spare sweater, I often wear long sleeve t-shirts underneath my dresses, sheer tops, and sweaters for extra warmth- and you can rarely ever see them. Smart layering is key!
2) The Gap sale right now is rocking my world; items in the store are 60% off their sale price, making most sweaters around $8-$15. Additionally, some of the pants are marked down to $5-$10. Yes, this is the time to go, if you need sweaters and/or pants. One thing to remember about Gap sales is that many of the same items in different colors get marked down differently. So, a red sweater may still be $20, but a blue sweater will be $8. Take some time to look through items in different colors to see if the markdown is different. As with most retail/chain sales, you can get through this sale in about 30-45 minutes.
Anyone else still wearing their sheer tops in winter? Visiting the Gap sale? Thanks so much for stopping by, readers! I appreciate it so very much!

  1. Let me just tell you how glad I am to generally not work on Wednesdays. With how freezing it is out there (the Lake was steaming on Monday. That’s how cold it is), I am all about staying inside with hot drinks. Space heaters are definitely the best alternative when the office is a necessity, though.

I love love love this top. And the back of it. Sometimes sheer things with layers underneath look weird on me. They stick and do funny things. So I generally avoid them in the winter. Sometimes I just don’t care and only want to wear sheer and be pretty.

  2. It’s not nearly as cold in NY right now, but my space heater is my #1 favorite item right now. Also, my mom texted me the other day telling me I had to get over to the Gap – now I def have to go! Haha

    P.S. Love that top 🙂

  3. Super cute top! Who knew Jlo made such nice tops.?! You’re a brave soul to wear a sheer top even with the layers I think I would freeze! Your temps are very similar to ours😖 How’s the windchill treating you? I’m so layered up it’s not even funny. My daily uniform as of late – thin layering tank + thin layering long sleeved top and add my sweater = warmth! I’m pathetic!

  4. Love tye cut pout details in the back.. I love the sheer floral top, and layering is so key in situation like ours where the highest temp is -3F! We had terrible windchill here yesterday and today!! In lobe with your boots, do they keep you warm or did you have to change towarmer ones for travelling?

  5. Love this look! Sheer tops are totally okay in the winter (as long as you don’t work outside!) The weather is in the single digits in Kansas City so I’ve just been wearing my sweats and uggs into work and changing when I get there!
I’ve haven’t checked out the Gap since right before xmas, but you’re making me think that I should!
