cozy and changing

The temperatures are slowly dropping in Chicago. In fact, it even snowed last week..and the snow accumulated, readers. As much as I sometimes dread the onset of months of snow, wind, and cold…I also secretly love the idea of cozying up in my sweaters (okay, fine, sweatpants) and watching some holiday movies while drinking tea (and eating cookies). So, I’m doing my best to embrace the change. After all, it’s going to change whether I like it or not, right? Oh Mother Nature, you’re never done with your life lessons, are you? This is my cozy and changing look, completely Mother Nature inspired.

Fashion Huntress tips:
1) This is one of the hardest times to find winter gear on sale, especially coats. I generally stick with what I have for the season, until after the holidays, when winter outerwear tends to go on sale again. If you’re anything like me, your winter gear could use a good cleaning. I recently went through my disorganized “winter basket” where I toss all my winter gear when I get home, and found, of course, everything I had been looking for (“THERE’S MY HAT!”). This is a good time of year to dig out your missing mitten, hats, etc, and assess what you have. Then, when everything goes on super sale, you’ll know what you want/need!
2) Now is the perfect time to start your holiday shopping, if you exchange gifts. I created my spreadsheet and have it with me whenever I am shopping, so that I remember what I have and what I have to get. I tend to be a little forgetful if things aren’t written down (understatement), so having my spreadsheet with me keeps me organized and ensures I find awesome finds in plenty of time before the holidays.
Anyone else started their holiday shopping or crafting? Any great ideas for gifts this year? I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

  1. I love this whole look! The coat is cute, and I adore the layers on your white shirt. The long necklace and ring are fun too. It looks perfect for fall -so cozy. 🙂

  2. Love the coat! I also get started on holiday shopping this time of year… I don’t want to set foot in a retail shopping space anytime in December. Too many amateurs 🙂

  3. Shh! Don’t say the S – word! lol Your weather is very similar to ours, crazy wind chills with very cold temps… I always say you can never have enough winter coats. I do the same thing and always wait until after the holiday season to buy coats.
Speaking of coats, I love the colour and cut of yours. Looks perfect for the start of season before the awful wind chills set in 😦
    xo, jackie

  4. Those shoes are so cute. The coat $20 are you kidding me. Such a fantastic find. Love your spreadsheet method. I am forgetful too and I only shop with a detailed list. I would be lost without a list.

  5. Hey gal…so good at buying! I myself buy winter clothes in end season sale at dust prices and use them next yr. Can’t buy so expensive winter clothes just for a month long winter in north india…. ☺☺☺…. i truly admire your fashion…. 😍

  6. Your coat is lovely! I’m trying hard to resist buying new winter items now (coats! boots! more boots!) for precisely the reason you state – my pocket book would be much happier waiting until end of season for that great sale price. It’s still oddly warm in California, but mornings are getting crisper…which has led me to frantically search for all my winter gear.

  7. Hi! I just want to start by saying that you look absolutely lovely in this post. 😉 I’m truly enjoying your blog, and am happy to have stumbled upon it.

What a great idea to carry a list, a detailed spreadsheet with you. I LOVE spreadsheets! Yes, I’m a bit of a nerd. I studied accounting in college, and, so, Excel is my friend. LOL!

Anyway, it was great reading your blog post today. I hope that you have a fabulous day!

    XOXO, Maria

  8. Holiday gift giving spreadsheet?! You are so organized!! Can you please come and organize my life?! LOL. 😀

Love this look, so elegant for fall. And as usual, I am ridiculously jealous of all the deals you find. 😀 Are you willing to confess how often you go and scope out your favorite stores for steals? You don’t just come across deals like that unless you browse often, am I right?
