brilliant blanket

Thanks for the lovely vacation wishes, all! I was hanging in New Orleans with the bf; I definitely enjoyed my first visit to the Big Easy! After a week of heat in the south, I’m back to fall weather in Chi…I missed my scarves, you guys. I really did. So, I celebrated being back in fall weather in a giant blanket-like cape. A couple of posts ago, I was talking about how excited I was that capes and ponchos are making a comeback (thanks, Burberry). Frankly, I will take any excuse possible to wear a blanket to work. This is, perhaps, my most cozy fashion dream come true. This is definitely a brilliant blanket: a cozy cape gone stylish.

Fashion Huntress tips:

1) Unlike in the past, many trends now hit discount shops fairly early on in the trend cycle. Nordstrom Rack and TJ Maxx often stock trendy pieces at great prices without the wait period. And, if you’re anything like me, you’ve had a few ponchos in your closet from the last time they were trendy. As always, I say wear what you love whenever you want, trendy or not! But, if you like to follow trends, save all your old pieces; it’s just a matter of time before they come back in style (90s, anyone?). If you didn’t save your old pieces, check out the discount shops or charity shops for vintage finds.

2) I was super excited to pull out this denim shirt dress and style it for fall, and it couldn’t have been easier. Tossing a cape over a dress is quite possibly the easiest way to style a summer dress for cooler months. It’s also about this time of the year when I basically live in leggings and boots. Per usual, I may need an intervention. However, this is a perfect example of how staples (leggings and boots) can help you effortlessly transition summer clothes to fall and winter without having to pack up your summer dresses.

Anyone else hopping on the cape trend? Enjoying fall? Thanks so much for stopping by, readers! I appreciate it so much!

  1. yay, you’re back! 😀 good to hear you had a great time on your vacation.

i love your cape look, and i definitely agree with you about wearing whatever we like, trendy or not. unfortunately in Finland we jumped straight from 18-19C degrees to 3C degrees so we can’t even wear our capes (or at least i can’t, as i get too cold easily). ugh. maybe next time!

  2. Welcome back! What was your favorite part of your trip? I love the pictures, they’re beautiful. You’re like Wonder Woman with the cape < 3

    1. Hmmm, I think the favorite part was just relaxing and taking in the vibrant culture. I saw blues and jazzs and just LOVED it! And thank you!! I’m totally going to call that my Wonder Women cape from now on :)!! xo!

  3. LOVE this look! LOL, don’t encourage the hoarding… 😀 Recently I’ve been much more likely to sell or giveaway anything I’m not wearing (especially items that don’t fit! I’ve gotten rid of most of the clothes I moved to NZ with 7 years ago)… Is that terrible? Maybe I’ll regret it someday. But I think it’s unlikely. 😀

  4. Can we talk about how amazing your blanket/cape coat is!! I just love the blanket coat trend this season, so perfect for fall weather! Cozy, stylish and warm! Does it get any better than that?!

  5. Lovely use of blanket. I love a cape. Got a great Burberry one last winter in a discount store and can’t wait to flap about in it again this year. I will wear it forever! x
