There’s something about the change of the seasons that gives the feeling of renewal, change, and new life. I think this feeling especially rings true in Spring. Finally, we can see the actual ground! Grass (albeit brown)! Puddles! I decided to celebrate and welcome these changes with flowers, stripes, bright colors, patent leather wedges…and of course, mustard tights. Thanks for coming, if only for a day, Spring. I’ll miss you when we get another foot of snow tomorrow, but I loved you while you lasted.

Fashion Huntress tips:

1) Let’s talk power clashing. My sister and I were recently talking about how power clashing is kind-of confusing because there’s seemingly no “rules,” but that it seems complicated, yet easy. I definitely hear that and feel the same. There really aren’t rules, just what looks good to you.

For me personally, thus far, when I’m putting together two completely different patterns or colors, I just try and stay within the same hues/gradient of color.  Example: I probably wouldn’t try a pastel skirt with a jewel toned top, but I would wear all different color jewel tones. In this outfit, I stuck with heavily saturated colors.

Additionally, I try and tie together the two pieces in question in some way.  In this skirt, the black and white actually partially matched the small parts of the top that are also black and white. These, of course, are just my tips. At the end of the day, you have to just wear what you love and forget the rules.

2) Nordstrom Rack has been rocking my world lately. Their winter clearance has continued for the past few weeks, and really, was not all that picked over when I was last there.  I also got their debit card to start using their “point system.” The great thing about their card is that you don’t have to open a new line of credit/credit card, as the card is just a debit card for Nordstrom tied to your regular checking account. Clever, clever, Nordstrom. I’m not sponsored by them at all, just FYI; I just like their debit system.  If you want more information about how it works, you can check it out here: http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/rewards
Anyone else using their card? Liking it? Loving power clashing?
Thanks, all, for reading and stopping by!! I love reading your comments and getting your feedback!

  1. LOVE how YOU look in this outfit but on me, it just wouldn’t work. I think you have a lot of courage and gumption to put something like this together for one, and then to wear it. Loved your post and loved looking at what you put together. I think you write very well, FYI …

  2. I really like you rule for mixing patterns. Especially that you should just wear what you love! I think that’s why your outfits come out so stylish…because you can tell that you love what you’re wearing!

  3. I always enjoy hearing the process that other women use to put an outfit together, your explanation on colour-clashing makes a lot of sense. I really love the top you’re wearing, too – there’s definitely a spring vibe in these photos!

  4. Nordstrom racks clearance section is amazing. I always find some fab pants on the racks.
I love mixing florals and stripes – the combo looks wonderful on you.
