A blustery day, indeed, is featured in these photos. Despite all that wind and cold, I attempted to stay strong and get these blog photos in…this was perhaps the quickest shoot yet in Fashion Huntress blogging. I’ll leave this post brief, as I think the quote and photos say it all.
“Adversity is like a strong wind. It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are.” -Arthur Golden
Top: Nordstrom Rack (approx $15 marked down from approx $80)
Skirt: H&M ($20 marked down from approx $50)
Tights: Hue via Marshall’s ($4 marked down from $14)
Shoes: Ellen Tracy ($9 marked down from $99)
Hair flowers: H&M (approx $4)
Fashion Huntress tips:
1) I used to think platform heels wouldn’t work in a conservative work setting, but I’ve really changed my mind on that one. I’ve worn these heels many times at work, though I always wear them with tights or other conservative pieces. If you’re going to wear something that’s a bit less conservative at work (ie metallic, platforms, etc), then just pair them with an otherwise “covered up” look. Though, again, this may not be true for all work environments, so you’ll have to take it case by case, based on your own work environment.
2) I am loving pastels during this winter/spring transition! I’ve been wearing pastels with dark pieces to transitions my spring pieces in winter. For some reason, I used to shy away from pastels in winter, but I’ve noticed that when pastels are anchored with other “winter” pieces they add some much needed lightness to the cold. Bust out your own spring pastels, and consider matching them with dark tights, dark shoes, or whatever else you want!
Thank you, lovely readers, for stopping by! I appreciate it so much! I also appreciated all of the kind words on my birthday/blogversary. You are all so kind to share your thoughts and well wishes! I hope everyone has a good start to the week.
Great colors! I love the printed blouse and you have styled it so beautifully! 🙂

wow! You look awesome! Love color of the tights, such a delicious color!
Love this gray/silver outfit with the beautiful punch of purple and floral!! Everything comes together so beautifully!!
Gorgeous blouse!
You have such a knack for putting gorgeous outfits together! I totally agree with #1 and mixing less conservative pieces with more traditional pieces.
Platform can work for work (get it?) when paired well, as you did. Oh, I love pastels but don’t really buy them, I don’t know what my problem is. I was eyeballing that blouse from the first photo-I love it. xx
Haha! Of course- we seem to have the same picks sometimes!! xo
Love the idea of busting out spring pastels and hand painted blossoms…
a perfect way to ‘blow away’ the winter doldrums…

Love the floral blouse. It seems as if they are blown away with the wind. Lovely!

love the windy photos! I’m with you on the platforms being ok at work. I’m not a fan of really tall/thick platforms, but a little platform is ok, I just watch the hemline or pair it with tights as you mentioned.
Ah, oh it was windy there! And I LOVE that blouse LOVE. Great styling.

Platforms are so suitable for work! Great post

Great accessories – the bracelet and the rings go so well with the floral top!
Thanks for braving the elements! These photos are *superb*. I love the dynamism in them – you really look you are standing your ground against the wind. I will use these for my next fashion illustration and will try to capture the energy. A caveat: I am sounding like a broken record, but I’m not sure if I’ll have time to do the drawings tonight (this week) or not. I so want to.
By the way, I’m aware of Chicago’s moniker as The Windy City. I’ve never been, but I like to think of the city I’ve been living in for the last 18 years as Chicago’s sister city in that respect! Edinburgh in Scotland gets the brunt of the strong winds coming off The North Sea. It is the windiest city I know in the UK. Here’s to blown over bins and useless umbrellas!
I forgot to say that it is useful for my drawing that these photos include the very top of your head and the bottom of your shoes – i.e. they show the full figure. This way I don’t need to imagine what to draw for these bits! Makes my life a bit easier 🙂 So thanks for that!!
I did it! I managed to make some time to do drawing last night. Thanks as always for the photos.

I had no idea about the wind in Edinburgh!! We do get a ton of wind in Chicago and intense wind that definitely blows away everything in sight!!
You are so brave, I usually just shudder in fear and retreat back to my apartment empty handed when this happens lol
I love that top! It makes me look forward to Spring.
I like to think of the wind as your going faster stripes! xxx
Wow that is some wind! You look like you’re about to be blown away. I LOVE those shoes – can’t believe the price! What a find!! xxx
