Somehow, my fashion blog ends up being about life in a lot of ways. I guess it’s not too surprising because I think our clothes are often an exterior marker of our interior- a way to show a little of our personality before we even speak.
Well, when I saw the photos my girlfriend took of this outfit I thought, “Whoa. I look like a grown up!” Does anyone ever feel like they are waiting for the day when they wake up and feel like a grown up? Because a lot of days, I feel like a girl in a grown up job and subsequently in grown up girly clothes. If my outfit is conveying, “I’ve got this, I can totally do this because I’m a grown up,” then this may be my favorite outfit yet. Thanks for the confidence boost, clothes. Are you ready to take on the grown up world? Good. Me too. Well, at least my shoes are.

Fashion Huntress tips:
1) I’m all about making summer sheer tops work for fall and winter. I wore this shirt a number of times throughout the summer, but made it work for fall by adding a heavy tweed skirt and closed toe heels. I like getting long sleeve sheer tops for year round usage, as they are easier to transition than a sheer camisole and they work well in cooler offices during summer. Sheer tops are available in many stores these days, though I tend to get mine at Nordstrom Rack and Marshall’s because you can get good quality at a reasonable price. Lower quality sheer can be a waste of money if they snag easily and/or don’t wash well.
2) I thought this plastic beaded necklace might end up looking too costumey for this outfit, but I think the high quality skirt elevated the look of the plastic necklace. I love a good high/low mix to make the whole outfit look evenly matched in terms of quality. For this very reason, I don’t shy away from affordable costume jewelry. It’s probably the easiest thing to make look nicer than it actually is. I like Charming Charlie’s, H&M and Forever 21 for very affordable trendy accessories.
Anyone else love a good high/low mix? Do you also generally stick with accessories?
Thanks for stopping by, lovely readers! I appreciate you so much!
Omg. Your outfit is sooo chic. I am completely in love with it!
I’m all about sheer tops and wear them all year round. They are definitely transition pieces that can be worn with the appropriate seasonal piece. More than 1/2 my tops and blouses consist of sheer or chiffony type fabrics. I just love their light weightedness and how they drape beautifully on the body😉 thanks for the great post!!!
I totally agree that we use clothes to express our interior selves! Well said, and cute grown-up outfit :).
I have only recently invested in a few sheer tops, havent worn them around much, but intend to pair them with sweaters for winter..a nice thin layer underneath the sweater.. You are rocking the red color btw, I am loving it!
How do you show likes of every post on the front page? 🙂
That is an excellent question! I have no idea! It’s just the default setting on my posts! I wonder if the wordpress help staff would be able to assist?
Thank you for replying!!
You look stunning! Hehe love this post. I agree fake it till you make it! You look very well put together. If I saw you at the office I would say woah she’s got her life together! Gold star. 🙂

Wowza!!!! Love this look! I agree about clothing being an extension of our personality. So true! xx
Beautiful outfit, love your shoes ❤
very chic! I totally get what you’re saying about waiting for the day you feel like a grown up. Clothes can definitely influence that. I think it’s interesting how I seem to act according to how I think I look. When I’m dressed more quirky and youthful, I’m a lot more giggly. And when I’m wearing a blazer and looking more professional, I feel like acting accordingly. I’m not trying to match my actions to my looks, it just seems to work out that way.
Stunning !!!
This is just stunning. I believe that our clothes absolutely have the ability to boost our confidence. If you look good…you feel good! Thanks for the lessons on life and fashion.
This outfit is just perfection! It may be a grown up look but it is so chic! The blouse and skirt are such a beautiful set and I just can’t get enough of those shoes!
