practice makes perfect

Okay, I fear that I may be a bit of an outfit repeater these days in my boots and leggings. I really hope I still can sit with the cool kids at lunch. …if you are befuddled by that comment, please refer to Mean Girls (“You can’t sit with us!”). But seriously, who has a brand new outfit everyday and how do they do it? Please feel free to comment in the comments section if you have the secret to all new clothes everyday.  On the other hand, there are a few pieces that I wear all the time because I love them so not just because I’m an outfit repeater…my ever faithful boots and leggings are definitely two of those pieces. After all, practice makes perfect, right? So I must be wearing these two pieces perfectly! (Let’s go with it).

Fashion Huntress tips:

1) I tend to love H&M for trendy pieces and, truly, I think their dress quality can be quite good if you look for the right types of fabrics.  When I’m looking at dresses there, I tend to look for fabrics that are heavy and durable.  Though the lace on this dress is a thinner fabric, it’s pretty tear/run proof thus far.  I often pull on the fabric a little in the store to see if it will snag easily.  To see if it will wrinkle easily, I scrunch it in my fist and then release it to see how the fabric holds up.  These tests seem to work thus far, though they clearly are not the most scientific!

2) Outfit repeating without making it look as though it’s outfit repeating is all about changing out key parts of the ensemble. I tend to swap out my dresses and accessories to switch up an outfit.  Here, I included a scarf and belt with my lace dress.  I’ll post later this weekend (hopefully!) about how I’ve worn this dress in other ways.  And, as always with lace, don’t forget your slip or people will definitely remember the dress, the boots, and the leggings…and not in a good way!

Any other tips for shopping for dresses and non-outfit repeating, readers?

Thanks for stopping by, all!! I love your thoughts and comments!

  1. I love it!!!! We are all repeat offenders. I think the key is just taking the items we love and wear over an over and mixing them up in new ways. That is what you call smart, stylish, creative and savvy…….which is everything you are. Love this post you just gave me an idea for my lace dress to carry it into fall/winter…..thanks so much for the inspiration. Keep it coming…lol. 😀

  2. Thank you so much for discussing outfit repeating! I appreciate your advice and the fact that you’re “keeping it real” for everyone who can’t go without repeating. Keep the great advice coming, Fashion Huntress!

  3. I love your outfit, dress is adorable. combined with boots and cozy tights make it so romantic. I don’t mind to repeat my outfits I’m on a budget and can’t afford to buy everyday something new, I sew, go to antique shops to find vintage and cheap apparel, sort out my old wardrobe ( like this time I found 2 pairs of pants which I didn’t wear for 6 years). I believe the most priceless skill is to find new way of using old item rather then go to shop and buy new one.

  4. I love your outfit and I think it’s totally okay to wear some stuff more often. Why not? 😉

I saw the dress one day – I can remember and was thinking about buying it, but it wasn’t that hard to make a decision because the dress wasn’t available in my size. Anyway – I love the dress! Lovely one! 🙂

  5. I do the same thing, especially in the cooler months. Warm, snuggly leggings are a weakness of mine. I like the feminine detail of your dress paired with the chunkier pieces, it’s a great transitional look.

  6. I love the way you tied your scarf! And I lovethe name of your blog lol. So cute. We have vintage in common because I am DYING for vintage all the time. 🙂 And are you kidding me? Ive come home for fall break and I brought home some of the outfits I wore last week because I didnt feel like trying to think of anything else! LOL. How’s that for repetition?! :p
Interested to see what you find next!

  7. sdrlfjalsdk! I love that dress, scarf belt, boots, leggings did I miss anything? You get the drift 🙂 (old man voice) Ah yes the trick to re-wearing outfits- I do it all the time, we all do. Honestly it’s a good thing I don’t normally post an ootd on the weekends because you can usually find me is the same leggings and rotating crew neck sweatshirts with varying scarves. I agree with your tips, I definitely do some of those things, I also like to layer ie. if I can turn a dress into a skirt by putting a cardigan or button down over it, why not? Accessories can also change any outfit also real basic pieces never matter. I find it easier to re-wear something plain that something bold with a lot of pattern or color. 🙂 If someone is looking at me that closely to remember that I just recently wore that then shame on them! Also thanks for the b-day wishes! xo
