When I saw this lace top this week at H&M, I knew exactly how I was going to wear it. Blogging about finding professional work clothes for a good price challenges me to look for the best deals I can find. This shirt definitely made the cut at $5! What a steal, right?
I paired the lace top with a matching blue tank top underneath, a blazer, dress pants and heels. To add a bit more blue to the outfit, I also wore my blue glass ring. And, my under the sea nails matched perfectly! I love it when that happens!
I like how the lace shirt sleeves peeked out from underneath the blazer. The blazer also has some nice structural details with the accentuated shoulder and the double collar.
Lace shirt: H&M ($5 marked down from$13)
Blazer: Forever 21 (approx $20)
Tank top: Express (I’m not kidding, I got this tank top when I was in high school. I’m now a post-graduate school professional, so that gives you an idea of how old it is! An oldie but goodie!)
Pants: Banana Republic ($20 marked down from approx $90)
Shoes: Lula Townsend at DSW ($12 marked down from $79)
Ring: Glass ring from a trip to Venice, Italy
Fashion Huntress tips:
1) There were so many of these lace tops on sale at H&M. I’m guessing there were so many left in the clearance section because the shirt looked really boxy on the hanger, and because the shirt is completely sheer. As you can see in the photo above, when the shirt was laid out on my countertop, it looked very sheer. In the store, the shirt was not displayed with anything underneath it, so it was hard to visualize what it would look like on. To keep this shirt functional and work appropriate, I added a matching tank top underneath, which took away from the sheer look. As always, try pieces on if you like them because you never know how it will look until you try! I tend to wear a tank top when I shop for that very reason.
2) When shirts are marked down to a true bargain price, like this shirt was, I look carefully at the fabric. This lace is very unlikely to pill or fade, so it seemed like a safe bet. However, I strongly encourage hand washing with any fabrics that seem delicate. Many a shirt has gone through my washing machine only to look much worse for the wear afterwards!
Happy Thursday, readers! As always, thanks for stopping by!
Love that top! Wish we had H&M in Aus!
No H&M there?? Too bad! Though, from your blog, I can tell there are a lot of stores in Aus that we don’t have Stateside!
